on a more personal note...

my life journey so far and how I got here...

People often refer to being broken as if it's a bad thing. I started my journey into the healing arts of therapy, meditation and breathwork looking to fix myself and to find relief from my depression. Eventually I realized that the so-called brokenness is actually the beauty of who we are. It’s what gives us our unique gift and personal power. It’s a motivator and a driving force behind honestly and fully getting to know ourselves.

If I was to be totally honest, I have never been satisfied when I look in the mirror. I guess that’s why I started the gym at 17 years old and eventually made a career in fitness. I thought that looking good would give me a sense of worth and maybe even a sense of liking what I saw in the mirror. I can’t put my finger on it, but there was always this sense of not being enough as I was. This quickly became an unhealthy process because the value I placed on myself was externally driven. Is it any surprise that 15 years later I find myself in a deep depression, feeling completely lost in life and struggling to be comfortable with my sexuality.

Up until my early 30’s I was achieving life goals, but at the same time I could feel myself being pulled into a void of sadness and depression.

The start of my downward spiral was triggered by the suicide of someone close. This left me questioning who I was and what my life was about. It left me with an overwhelming sense of guilt that made me feel like I was unworthy of success, happiness and love. I went to therapy and eventually spent 30 days in a rehabilitation center for severe depression. This sparked a journey into self discovery and practices like meditation, yoga and eventually Breathwork.

At first I found Yoga painful for me as my body was so tight and rigid. Sitting in meditation was absolute torture. On the advice of my therapist I went to the local Buddhiust temple and attended meditation and philosophy sessions. I did three a week for about 6 months. What started as torture soon became the highlight of my week. The quest to fix myself and my journey of self-discovery had begun.

As my quest continued, I did ALL the courses and coaching sessions. One day my coach suggested I try yoga. It seemed like a natural progression with my fitness background, but the problem was I hated it. Well so I thought. I went off and did my first Yoga training with a program that was designed for the fitness industry because I didn't want any of that spiritual stuff. Next minute I’m at an Ashram in the Himalayas taking a deep dive into the world of Yoga and Advaita Vedanta. This taught me that if we focus purely on the physical body, we never discover what's beneath the surface. The good news is that we don’t have to choose between the two.

It’s OK to take pride in our appearance and be strong, fit and healthy. We can have a banging body, just know that it doesn't define our value or make us a better person.

What I love most about my learnings and what I can share from my Yoga, Philosophy and Breathwork training is introducing people to a pathway or bridge that can guide them on their own journey. To live a life of unlimited potential, which I believe we all have access to. This is the process of self-actualisation. To live connected to your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual body. All layers of your being. This is where we have the power to share our gift with others. Some may call this living your life purpose. I call it the purpose of living life.
